Le Petit Trésor - Renovation PhotosHere, you can view our renovation work on Le Petit Trésor as it progresses. Just click on the slide show photos below. The first photos were taken just prior to our closing in late September 2008.
Week 1: The first couple weeks are the messiest, and perhaps the hardest physically. Extra keys are made, tools moved over to the apartment, and protective flooring on anything of importance. Then the demolition begins, with old walls coming down, brick by brick. It is a slow, dirty and noisy job. Hauling the debris away takes almost as long as removing the walls. Structural walls are never touched however. Detailed measurements are taken and the final floor plan takes shape. Occasionally a surprise is encountered; sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Fortunately, nothing serious arose this week.
Week 2: Complete removal of debris. Remove existing hot water heat lines and radiators. Start new wall framing. Start installation of new plumbing and drainage lines for kitchen and bathroom. Order kitchen and bathroom cabinets and appliances.
Week 3: Finish framing for shower enclosure and bench. GDF to remove gas meter. 2nd coat on ceiling patch repairs. Pour cement for base in new bedroom to prepare for extending oak parquet. Install new subfloor under new kitchen location. Finish plumbing rough-ins for bathroom vanity, new HW storage tank, washer and shower. We are investigating purchase of a Murphy bed instead of a sleeper sofa in the LR area. Week 4: Continue plumbing installation. Continue wall and ceiling preparation for painting. Ordered all kitchen and bath cabinetry and kitchen appliances - delivery mid to late December. Ordered marble for bathroom. Ordered shower fixtures and door. Our electrician decided to go to Thailand instead of working. Aargh! Checking on backup sources for electrical contractors. Ordered LR furniture, 8-12 week delivery. Ordered high efficiency electric radiators for apartment, 3-4 week delivery. Week 5: Install baseboard in Hall and on casing trim on doorways. Continue prep on walls and ceilings and begin primer coat on some walls. Hopefully start on relay of BR flooring. Install new electrical panel and housing. Begin setting of electrical outlets. Finish plumbing and pressure test. Marble to be delivered late in week.
Week 6: Begin electrical work throughout apartment. Remove existing DR floor and relay the floor with chevron pattern. Finish concrete underlayment in bathroom areas and commence installation of marble floors. Commence installation of flooring in expanded bedroom area. Continue sanding and priming of walls in entry and LR.
Week 7: Continuation of electrical work, including setting switch and outlet boxes. Finish BR flooring, start work on DR floor, including pickup of parquet. Continue painting preparation of walls throughout. Start marble installation in bathroom.
Weeks 8-9 Continuation of painting, electrical, and marble installation. Delivery of marble order. Finish connection of new plumbing/drain lines by outside vendor.
Week 10: Last week before holidays. Finish installation of electrical panel and switchplates. Finish final coat of painting. Construct Owner storage units in cave. Delivery of kitchen and cabinets (hopefully). Delivery of radiators. Continue marble installation. Install bathroom fixtures.
Week 11: Holiday vacation for our crew, who deserve a well earned break to spend time with their families.
Due to the large number of renovation photos, I will be breaking down the slideshow into 3 weeks segments, starting Week 4. Hopefully, this will make it easier to stay abreast of our progress without having to view all of the earlier photos.
